Please join me in my efforts to support the American Heart Association - Gulf Coast, MS and honor Tom Kain, otherwise known as Animal, Harry, little brother, Dad or as I called him Papa Kain.
Last year my family began a tradition of honoring our Dad, Tom Kain by walking for the American Heart Association in San Diego, California. The American Heart Association is a wonderful organization close to our hearts that strives to make a significant difference in the fight against Heart Disease.
In the Fall of 2008 we raised over $5,000 in Dad’s name thanks to the gracious generosity of so many friends and family members. This year I didn’t think we were going to be able to do the walk because I am on assignment for work in Mississippi. A few days ago, as if by fate, I received an email from a group within my company called WiNGs (Women in Northrop Grumman). It was an open invitation to a number of people to join their team and walk in Mississippi for the AHA. I took it as a sign that no matter where I found myself this year or any year, that there would always be an AHA walk to participate – I said “yes” to the invitation and joined the WiNGs team.
Our family lost our Dad five years ago this past July when he suffered a massive heart attack on July 27, 2004. My Dad was 53 years young. His family had a legacy of heart disease. Both his Father and Grandfather died at 57 from heart attacks. Dad was not naïve; I think he always knew that his time on this Earth was not going to be a conventionally long one, but it was absolutely a full one. My Dad is survived by his bride of 30 years, my Mom Betsy Kain, three children; Ben Kain-32 (married to Kelly Kain), Meghan Kain-29 (that’s me) and Tim Kain-24, also his Brother Joe Kain and 3 Sisters Kathy O’Bee, Margaret Paganelli & Pat Kain. His legacy of living and loving BIG reached far beyond his family.
Dad always used to say, “appreciate the little things in life”. Whatever your reason, whatever your inspiration by walking for the AHA, by donating to the AHA, you are making a difference. And that is something simple to appreciate in this life.
Thank you for your support!
